Lötschental

The truly unique Lötschental valley sits nestled between the Bernese and Pennine Alps as what has to be one of the most authentic valleys in the whole of Switzerland. Before the Lötschberg tunnel was opened in 1913 and the road was built during the 1950s, it was rather tricky to get to the valley. This allowed the ‘gateway to the canton of Valais’ to maintain a lot of the charm that gave Switzerland its name as a top tourist destination, which many holiday spots have sadly now lost.
