Location and how to get here
The Hotel Edelweiss is on the eastern edge of the village of Blatten at the point where two mountain streams meet. Blatten is right at the back of the Lötschental, meaning it is the highest village in the valley. As the only side valley in the canton of Valais that runs from east to west, it is flooded with sunlight.
Before the Lötschberg tunnel was opened in 1913 and the road was built during the 1950s, it was rather tricky to get to the Lötschental valley. And yet it is the valley’s former seclusion that lends Blatten its unique charm, with its wooden houses turned black in the sun, typical Valais stores and unspoilt nature.
Getting to us by car
Coming from the north, take the A6 motorway from Bern to Spiez. Here, Kantonstrasse branches off towards the village of Kandersteg. Once your car has been loaded onto the car transport system in Kandersteg with speed and ease, you will be taken through the Lötschberg tunnel and will conveniently arrive in Goppenstein in just 15 minutes.
Coming from the south, take the Rhonetal motorway from Lausanne or take Kantonstrasse from Brig to Gampel/Steg.
From Steg and Goppenstein, the well-constructed road will bring you directly to the Lötschental valley. The road is even in good condition during the winter, but you will need your vehicle’s winter gear between November and April.
When you enter the village of Blatten, turn right over the bridge towards Fafleralp. Around 100 m after you pass the last buildings, turn left and cross a bridge to get to the hotel car park. From there, you can easily access the hotel and restaurant in the lift.
Getting to us on public transport
The Bern–Lötschberg–Simplon North–South Axis will get you safely from Bern or Brig to the train station in Goppenstein, with services running at hourly intervals. Once you reach Goppenstein, you will be able to hop on a postbus that will take you to the Lötschental valley. The journey from Goppenstein to Blatten takes around 25 minutes. From the Blatten-Brücke bus stop, just walk straight up Dorfstrasse through the village to the hotel. This part of the journey will take 5 minutes on foot.
